Army and RAF Officers serving aboard navel vessels were included from 1940. Officers of the Merchant Navy were also included from 1931. The lower limb of the medal is engraved with the year of issue and subsequent awards are denoted by adding a 2nd award bar to the ribbon. Since 1984 this
