Prior to 1901, the front of the medal featured an emblem of weaponry with the Royal Arms in an oval shield at the centre, while the back displayed the words "For Long Service and Good Conduct". When King Edward VII ascended to the throne in 1901, his likeness replaced the emblem on the front of the medal. In 1930, the medal was renamed the Long Service and Good
